Australia 🇦🇺 is a large country with a hot climate. Its young people are good at cricket 🏏 (sort of), swimming and a local brand of football played nowhere else in the world.

But not ice skating ⛸❄️☃️!

So when Stephen Bradbury, a 29 year old Australian won the 1,000 metre speed skating event at the 2002 Winter Olympics when all of the other competitors fell over, a new phrase was born.

“To do a Bradbury”.

Or dumb luck.

And so that brings your correspondent to Steve Bannon. Hailed as a political genius in the tradition of James Carville, Lee Atwater and Bobby Kennedy.

He claims the credit for electing a 70 year old reality TV star with no previous elected office to the Presidency of the United States.

But who has now lost Alabama, which is redder than the crimson tide, to the man in blue.

And so was Trump a triumph of political genius?

Or did Bannon, and Trump, “do a Bradbury”.

Dumb luck……2020 waits.
