The Swamp Farm Trumpets 🎺 are getting perilously close to that most desperate of excuses for a sporting team’s failure – “this is a rebuilding year”.

Bullock Tillerson has been sacked by Coach Trump. Like a number of the other players including Goldmine Cohn and Mnuchin the Munchkin, Bullock Tillerson had been a star in the Corporate League.

However, he failed to handle the different playing style of the Farm League.

The Corporate League Commissioner has, at least recently, tightly regulated unacceptable on field behaviour such as misleading statements and spending money you don’t have.

The Farm League plays a more flowing game with half truths (also known as “spin”) and more recently lies (also known as “alternative facts”), and deferring the payment of any debts until future seasons (also known as “kicking the can down the road”).

The coaching styles in the two competitions are different.

Coaches in the Corporate League give players private feedback in the change rooms – although this has been less effective since the HR department also required commentary on team values. There has been mixed success with new training techniques such as town hall meetings, weekly emails from the Coach on Friday afternoons when everyone is trying to leave and puff pieces in the press that described a Coach that is mostly unrecognisable to the players.

Coach Trump prefers to use a megaphone from the grandstand as a development tool. He has never referred to values! The tweets were constant. And the puff pieces were all too recognisable to the players.

It is now also rumoured that some of the transfers from the Military League are likely to be sacked for talking back to Coach Trump.

So Coach Trump is recruiting players from the Entertainment League. He seems willing to try again even after the implosion of high profile hire, Skunk Scaramucci, last season. He is clearly hoping that strength on spin and alternative facts, as well as looking good in a baseball uniform, will make up for an inability to actually hit or catch a baseball.

And the Bad Haircut game is getting closer….
