Washington: Monday ✉️ by a special correspondent.
The initial reports on Monday was that there had been a small earthquake in the nation’s capital as plates and cups rattled and pictures of the President in Federal office buildings were knocked askew.
However, the cause was actually the violent spinning by Republicans and Democrats. Which collided with hyperbole and grim pronouncements from the liberal and conservative press. The aftershocks were the result of excessive use of CAPITALS in tweets.
Here is some of what we know so far.
The indictments are good news for Trump. And the indictments are bad news for Trump. And the indictments should have been of crooked Hillary. And that Mueller is a step closer to being fired. And that Mueller has played this carefully so he won’t be fired.
The lack of any reference to Trump in the Manafort indictment is apparently good news for Trump. Although your correspondent is more sympathetic to the bad news for Trump argument as conviction on tax offences leads to a very long period in federal accommodation, and will encourage what is politely called “cooperation”.
Which, if you look at the big picture, seems relevant when the alleged tax fiend with a liking for caviar and borscht was the Chairman of the Trump Presidential election campaign.
On the other hand, the role of Papadopoulos is described by the Trump camp as a volunteer aide who attended one meeting. And it allowed Sarah Huckabee, who could turn a nuclear first strike against North Korea into a tennis ball thrown over the fence by mistake, with plenty to work with.
All of which misses the essential point of why would a volunteer aide with nothing to hide lie to those cuddly folk from the most threatening law enforcement group in a democratic country. And why would they offer him a deal – unless he had something to deal?
Although. Breaking news. The President’s lawyer says he is not worried about the indictments! Because lawyers normally admit in public that their clients are worried that the cold hand of a hot prosecutor is inches away!
Readers should now look forward now to reporting littered with a snowstorm of “telling signs”, “amounts to nothing”, “plea deal”, “pardon”, “firing Mueller” and “federal prison”.
