Washington: January 15, 2020
In a statement, the Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced that all co-operation and joint initiatives between the United States and Russia would cease.
“We were learning a lot from each other. We swapped ideas, people and computer access codes”.
“We didn’t implement everything. Melania was adamant that a picture of the President without a shirt would lose votes”.
“However, recent events have made clear that we fundamentally see how Government operates in a completely different way to many in the Russian Government”.
Apparently, the resignation of the Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev, and his Government, stepping away from positions of power and prestige, in protest over proposed changes to the Russian constitution which would entrench the position of an authoritarian leader who governs for the benefit of a small group of wealthy insiders, engages in risky overseas military action for personal glory and who is lacking widespread public support, has shocked many Senate Republicans.
Surrounded by the Secretary of State and the Acting White House Chief of Staff, McConnell answered a question from a reporter:
“I think the next few weeks will show just how much my Republican colleagues and I value the US constitution”.
And just then, the lights in the Capitol flickered. But stayed on, for now….
