Washington, Sydney and Mumbai: January 3, 2023
The first international game of cricket was played between the United States and Canada in 1844. After 180 years, there is now optimism that the United States is ready to rejoin international test cricket.
According to the International Cricket Council, the traditional view was that Americans were unwilling to follow a 5 day event of interminable tedium with only a low chance of a result.
However, the breathless media coverage of repeated counts to elect a Speaker to the House of Representatives has given supporters of the game new hope.
A spokesman said today “Cricket has everything that should appeal. It’s not just the unrealistic belief in a result. It’s also got cheating and name calling.”
